Israël maakt nu van de geschiedenis van de Joden de toekomst van de Palestijnen. Als rechtvaardiging van voortgaande onderdrukking dient het verzet van de verjaagden en onderdrukten: Het is hun eigen schuld, ook al kunnen zij weinig veranderen aan hun lot en ook al zou ieder mens zich onder zulke omstandigheden verzetten. Het resultaat zal zijn een steeds sterker volk, waar eerst nog slechts sprake was van verjaagde, geminachte, angstige en onderdrukte vluchtelingen.
Joden weten als geen ander dat een volk niet louter ontstaat door een gezamenlijke ontwikkeling maar met name door het ondergaan van een gemeenschappelijk lot. Niets smeedt een volk zo sterk aaneen als gezamenlijk verzet tegen tegenslag en onderdrukking.
Israël creëert met de onderdrukking van de Palestijnen opzettelijk tegenslagen en vijanden. Het gemeenschappelijke lot van het Joodse volk is dan geen onontkoombare oorzaak meer, maar een bewust gekozen middel tot behoud van de ellende teneinde het Jodendom in stand te houden en om niet als volk en als natie uiteen te vallen.
In deze poging om op grond van een maakbaarheidsillusie de geschiedenis om te draaien, gaat het oorspronkelijke doel van volkvorming verloren: Het verzorgen van gemeenschappelijke belangen en het gezamenlijk streven naar maatschappelijk en individueel geluk.
De Israëliërs kunnen deze oorlog tegen de Palestijnen nooit winnen, tenzij het verliezen ervan de beoogde winst vormt.
Als Israël de raketten van het Palestijnse verzet écht zo onverdraaglijk en onaanvaardbaar vinden, dan kunnen zij beter wat meer hun best doen om het de oorspronkelijke bevolking van hun land het uitzicht op een menswaardig bestaan te gunnen. Geen zinnig mens kan immers van de Palestijnen verlangen dat zij het lot accepteren dat Israël hun oplegt. Hun zit weinig anders op dan zich te blijven verzetten tegen de onderdrukking en tegen de annexatie en kolonisatie van hun land door een oppermachtige bezetter.
Het enige voordeel van het tragische lot dat de Palestijnen moeten ondergaan (onder toezien van ‘the international community’ waar de Israëlische minister Tzipi Livni zo graag naar verwijst), is dat zij als volk uiteindelijk aan gemeenschapszin en innerlijke kracht zullen kunnen winnen.
De vorming van een democratische rechtsstaat is de modernste vorm van ‘volkvorming’. Etniciteit, genetische afkomst, geografische herkomst, cultuur en religie spelen daarbij geen rol meer, omdat het onderscheiden (en dus ook het selecteren c.q. afwijzen van mensen om die redenen op grond van universele opvattingen van mensen- en burgerrechten, internationale verdragen en nationale grondwetten niet langer geoorloofd is.
Het is te hopen dat de Palestijnen de fase van ‘ouderwetse’ volkvorming zullen overslaan, en meteen zullen overgaan tot natievorming op grond van democratie, rechtsstatelijkheid en inbedding in de politieke wereldgemeenschap. Dit laatste zal voorlopig wel een wens blijven, gezien het grote belang dat hun bezetters en onderdrukkers nog hechten aan religie, historie, ‘bloed en bodem’ en allerlei daarmee samenhangende argumenten en claims van veelal metafysische aard. Hier wordt nog een historische godsdienst- en cultuuroorlog gevoerd, maar dan wel met (voorlopig nog aan één kant) de modernste Amerikaanse en Israëlische wapens.

U betoogt in uw stuk dat Israël opzettelijk vijanden en tegenslagen creëert. Twee vragen heb ik daarover Op welke feiten baseert u dat? En wat voor belang heeft Israël erbij om dat te doen? Alleen om het nationaliteitsgevoel in stand te houden? De bron van het hele conflict is er volgens mij in gelegen dat de Arabieren het VN delingsakkoord uit 1947 niet wilden accepteren eenvoudigweg omdat men niet aan een Israëlische staat wilde. De door velen bejubelde PLO is in 1964 opgericht met als doel de vernietiging van de staat Israël. De "democratisch gekozen" Hamas heeft steeds op belangrijke momenten als belangrijke doorbraken nabij waren roet in het eten gegooid met zelfmoordaanslagen. Genoemde partijen zijn niet geïnteresseerd in vrede maar willen slechts één doel: één Islamitisch Palestina.
Jacob, je hebt in zoverre gelijk dat één Islamitisch Palestina inderdaad niet te combineren valt met één Joods Eretz-Israël (voormalig Palestina). Wat vind je? Moeten wij de sterkste partij met zijn overmacht aan modern en krachtig wapentuig dus maar gewoon laten winnen, alsof de wereld nog wordt geregeerd door de wetten van de jungle?
